Why Join IFTR?
The International Federation for Theatre Research is a premier organisation that exists to facilitate communication and exchange between scholars of theatre and performance research throughout the world through its conference events and publishing activities.
Joining IFTR allows you to:
- connect with theatre scholars from around the world
- develop your research through scholarly, international exchanges
- participate in the Federation’s commitment to internationalise theatre and performance research
Fees and Benefits
There is an annual fee to become a member of IFTR. Rates are banded according to country category, with subsidised fees for students, unwaged, contingent, and retired members. Membership includes online access to the Federation’s quarterly journal, Theatre Research International (TRI). Access to TRI includes both current issues and the archive. Members who wish to opt for print copy of the journal can do so for an additional fee.
Becoming a member of IFTR also grants you full access to the online content of the Federation’s website; places you on the distribution list for our emails; and entitles you to discounted conference registration. (Please note that conference registration fees are separate to the annual membership fee; see also our New To IFTR? | IFTR page.)
Ethics of Practice for Members of IFTR
Membership to the Federation requires compliance with the Ethics of Practice. The Ethics of Practice can be found here.
IFTR’s Revenue
IFTR deploys the revenue generated from membership fees to accomplish the goals of the Federation. In particular: IFTR operates an annual EUR 30,000 bursary scheme to help members attend annual conferences; supports conference hosts with a EUR 10,000 subsidy; and covers set costs for its annual Prize winners.
