IFTR 2019 SHANGHAI, CHINA
SHANGHAI THEATRE ACADEMY
8 – 12 JULY 2019
Deadline for abstracts: 7 January 2019
The group welcomes papers, performative presentations and provocations that take a queer approach to the conference theme, ‘Theatre, Performance, and Urbanism’. Potential topics could include:
· Queer performance and urban spaces
· Queer performance and the city
· Queer performance and rurality
· Challenging the binary of the urban and the rural in/through queer performance
· Virtual spaces as a queer performance site between the urban and the rural
· Migrating practices from the rural to the urban (and back again)
· Debates around queer urbanism and identity in performance
· Queer urbanism, performance and community
· Queer anti-urbanism and the issues of metronormativity
·
In addition to submissions that consider aspects of the conference theme, we also invite contributions that touch on any aspects of the Group’s general remit surrounding queer futures. We currently are engaged with ideas of queer dramaturgy, affect, temporality, representation, community and performance research. We are particularly interested in hearing from local performers who are currently producing queer work or engaging with queer performance.
FORMAT
Papers/Performance-Presentations/Provocations should be 15 - 20 minutes long and will be followed by discussion. The conveners will circulate more information on the format once submissions have been accepted.
We warmly welcome new members, including those who wish to take part in the group’s discussion, but who do not want to submit a paper.
SUBMISSIONS
The deadline for the submission of abstracts is 7 January 2019. To contribute a paper, please submit a 250-300 word abstract and other details through the Cambridge Journals Online website https://www.cambridge.org/core/membership/iftr.
