Queer Futures
Queer Futures offers a platform to critically reflect on queer theatre and performance research from across the world. The group is made up of international researchers interested in queer performance, queer research, queer theory, queer politics, and more.
Remit
Queer Futures held its first formal meeting in 2010. The working group considers the queer subjects, issues, theories and methods that our international network of researchers and practitioners are currently engaging with. The group is currently motivated by ideas of queer dramaturgy, affect, history and historiography, temporality, representation, community, transnationality, performance research, globalisation, politics, and more.
At each conference, we are interested in contributions that take a queer approach to the conference theme as well as any contributions that fall within the group's remit of queer performance and queer performance research. The group welcomes researchers and practitioners at any stage of their careers.
We are interested in generating supportive and robust conversations and exchanges about queer performance and queer research and scholarship. We are also interested in continuing conversations beyond the conference each year, and are open to suggestions for publications, interim events and more.
If you have any questions or suggestions, please do not hesitate to get in touch with the convenors.

Work Plan
Queer Futures meets annually at the IFTR Conference. We accept a variety of submissions including papers, performance presentations, and provocations. In addition to the annual conference theme, we are guided by questions such as
- What issues and practices are of current concern to queer scholarship?
- How does queer research differ in different cultural contexts?
- What are the particular contemporary issues for queer performance and queer performance research now and in the future?
- What is the future of queer performance and queer performance research?
The Convenors are happy to hear from researchers at all stages of their careers if they are interested in contributing to the working group, and welcome conversations about the current field of queer performance and queer performance research both in relation to annual conferences and more generally.
