Call for chapters The Oxford Handbook of Dance and Disability
The Oxford Handbook of Dance and Disability
Call for Chapters
We invite contributions to our co-edited anthology The Oxford Handbook of Dance and Disability (under contract with Oxford University Press).
This handbook is dedicated to exploring disability dance situated at the intersection of embodiment, aesthetics, politics, and pedagogy. We are interested in how dance and disability foregrounds the political and activist dimensions of collaborative encounters between dancers with diverse bodyminds. We seek to elicit contributors whose work engages with this fertile intersection of embodiment, aesthetics, and politics, an intersection demonstrating Disability Dance as a way of knowing and performing. We aim to present analytical readings of embodied representation in dance specifically through a disability perspective, positioning disability alongside age, sexuality, gender, ethnicity, and nationality within examinations of the ways dance can serve as political expression and a medium for negotiating stigmatic, binary, or confining categories.
Chapter contributions are welcome from scholars, activists, and artists working in all areas of dance and disability, addressing a wide range of contexts including but not limited to:
behind-the-scenes artistic processes in the dance studio,
archives, digital tools and platforms,
private and public spheres, media, and stage performances.
The deadline for submitting a 500-word abstract for your chapter is March 15th, 2025.
Please email us if you would like to receive a full CFC.
