The Theatre and Performance Studies Department at the University of Warwick invites Expressions of Interest from students interested in applying to the Midlands4CitiesAHRC-funded PhD Studentship scheme (for commencing study in October 2025). The scheme is suitable for candidates wishing to undertake doctoral (PhD) study in the field of drama, theatre, and performance.
The Department of Theatre and Performance Studies department offers a unique and dynamic research culture, and we are particularly interested in supporting candidates in any of the following areas of specialisation:

Contemporary European theatre and performance practices (including playwriting, dramaturgy, translation and adaption, and interdisciplinary work)

Applied Theatre and socially-engaged performance

Performance, gender and sexuality
- British and Irish theatre practices
- Theatre and National Identity
- Performance curation and documentation
- Film theory and film analysis
- Practice-as-research
- Theatre, politics and philosophy
- Theatre, race and postcolonialism
- 19th-century theatre and historiography
For anyone interested in pursuing this exciting opportunity, applicants can send their CV and an expression of interest (up to one A4 page explaining their research project to bryony.white@warwick.ac.uk) by Monday, 23rd September 2024. If successful, students will be asked to develop their application with their chosen supervisor and to apply through the university’s application portal.
