NEW SCHOLARS AWARD IN DISABILITY PERFORMANCE
The Performance and Disability Working Group of the International Federation for Theatre Research are pleased to announce the New Scholars Award in Disability Performance. This award honours esteemed senior researcher Yvonne Schmidt, co-founder of our working group and long-serving convenor (2011-2020). As part of our group's ongoing commitment to proactively support attendance for participants, especially disabled artists/scholars, the Award primarily recognises new scholars from underrepresented parts of the world working in the field of disability performance. The Award is for IFTR membership and conference registration fee; funds will be processed during the Galway 2021 conference week.
Criteria of eligibility
• Applicant is working in disability performance
• Applicant or applicant’s institution resides in a Band B country
• Or, if in Band A country, applicant self identifies with an underrepresented group in that country
• Applicant identifies as emerging or early career (postgraduate student, researcher within 5 years of PhD conferral and/or artist with 5 years or less professional experience)
• Applicant is a current IFTR member at time of application
• Applicant will attend conference as a Performance and Disability Working Group member
Criteria of assessment
Applications will be reviewed according to elligibility criteria and assessed:
i) on the degree to which the applicant demonstrates potential in the academic or artistic area of disability performance;
ii) and the degree to which the applicant sheds light on new knowledge from underrepresented regions or cultural groups in the world.
Assessment of the award will be undertaken by three members of IFTR’s Performance and Disability Working Group.

• 250 Word statement responding to the assessment criteria, accompanied by
• a one-page CV highlighting achievements and skillsets in performance practice and/or research.
Deadline
15 December 2020. The award will be announced 30 January 2021.
