Call for papers: Critical Forum on Queer Theatre and Performance to be published in Theatre Research International
Prompted by the founding of the Queer Futures working group within IFTR/FIRT in 2009, this forum offers a platform to reflect critically on contemporary queer theatre and performance research. It does so by bringing together a selection of articles that focus on histories of queer scholarship within IFTR/FIRT and the current concerns of members. The forum is additionally interested in profiling pertinent research by scholars not directly involved with IFTR/FIRT.
First, we are seeking expressions of interest for 2000 word articles that examine aspects of methodology, theory, scholarship and practice of relevance to contemporary queer theatre and performance research. Given the length of articles, we aim for entries to be highly focused, illuminating the key questions, challenges, or processes of a research project.
Second, we are interested in receiving ideas for shorter creative or polemical contributions (approx. 500 words.)
Some of the questions submissions might address include:
• What are the histories of queer scholarship within IFTR/FIRT prior to the establishment of the working group?
• What issues and practices are of current concern to queer scholarship?
• What theoretical and methodological issues are scholars grappling with?
• Is queer research still relevant given the many achievements of LGBTQ activism, particularly in pockets of Western culture?
• How does queer research differ in different cultural contexts?
Please make initial inquiries to forum editors Fintan Walsh (f.walsh@bbk.ac.uk) and Alyson Campbell (alyson.campbell@unimelb.edu.au). Final abstract proposals of 200 words should be submitted no later than Friday 17 January 2014.
