Dear IFTR members,
Bliain nua faoi shéan agus faoi mhaise daoibh go léir/ A happy and peaceful new year to you all.
We were disappointed not to be able to welcome IFTR members in person to Galway in July 2021, but are hugely excited about organising the first ever fully-virtual IFTR conference! Our aim is to create an event that will allow members from across the world to participate in ways that are new and exciting. We will seek to retain all of the important features of the ‘live’ annual conference: general panels, working groups, new scholars forum and keynotes. But we also want to use the digital platforms to do new things. These include developing a social and cultural programme that delegates will be able to participate in, both live and in their own time. This will comprise access to videos of Galway-based theatre and more. We will also be arranging an artists’ panel, giving delegates an opportunity to hear from some of Ireland’s leading theatre-makers, who will address the relationship between theatre and ecology, and will discuss how they have confronted the complexities of liveness and audience during this difficult time.
The Galway team looks forward to ‘seeing’ as many of you as possible in July 2021. A friendly reminder that the deadline for the submission of abstracts, old and new, is 31st January 2021.
