Fabulamundi Workbook: Contemporary Playwriting and Theatre Translation Practices in Europe

Please complete the survey on Contemporary Playwriting and Theatre Translation Practices in Europe by 26 January 2020: http://www.fabulamundi.eu/en/fabulamundi-workbook/

Dear colleagues,

I wanted to draw your attention to a survey I am conducting as part of a study commissioned by the EU-sponsored project "Fabulamundi – Playwriting Europe Beyond Borders”. The Fabulamundi network includes some of the most active and celebrated venues, festivals and organisations working in contemporary playwriting and translation in Europe. See www.fabulamundi.eu/en/ for more details.

The research project, called "Fabulamundi Workbook: Contemporary Playwriting and Theatre Translation Practices in Europe”, aims to map current practices, systems and perceptions in contemporary playwriting and theatre translation in the 10 European countries where Fabulamundi partners are based (Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Romania, Spain, and the UK), in order to encourage closer collaboration and understanding, and to share best practices across linguistic and cultural borders.

The survey is designed to record the knowledge, experiences and opinions of those working in the field in the above countries, such as authors, translators, directors, actors, producers, critics, etc. By analysing the survey results, I will be drafting preliminary reports on each country, which will form the basis for more nuanced conversations and interviews with key players during Spring and Summer 2020. Based on these conversations, the reports will be updated, peer-reviewed and subsequently published as part of a book.

While it will be impossible to fully account for the complexities of each context, Fabulamundi partners are keen for this publication to help their mission of strengthening contemporary playwriting and theatre translation in Europe, creating more opportunities for living authors.

If you have knowledge or experience of contemporary playwriting and theatre translation in any of the countries above, please consider filling in the questionnaire. Your contribution is highly appreciated! The survey will remain open unti 26 January 2020.
